The electric output signal of a pulse generator coupled to a shaft is frequency-transformed into a frequency-proportional voltage which is then smoothed. It is thus possible to obtain a highly accurate value of actual speed in conjunction with a low smoothing time constant. Preferred applications of the invention are position-controlled speed drives having subordinate speed control. <IMAGE>
