A valve rotation device, by means of which the valve disc is rotated uniformly at each stroke has a freewheel mechanism assigned to the bottom spring plates or the cylinder head and a two-part rotary section. The two parts of the rotary section are connected to one another by way of a ball rotatably arranged in a ball track or shell and influence one another in as much as the turning ring is at any time locked in one direction of rotation by the freewheel mechanism so that it then rotates the upper part of the rotary section assigned to the upper spring plate so that the valve is turned as required. Turning ring and freewheel mechanism are held on the cylinder head by a bearing plate enclosing both of them so that automatic centring is obtained when they are assembled. <IMAGE>
