Title compds. I(R,R1,R2= H, lower alkyl, alkenyl, lower cycloalkyl; R3,R3= H, halogen, lower alkoxy, CN, COOH, OH; if m=1 or O, Q = CH2, -CH2-CH2- or -CH=CH-, resp.) useful as tranquilizer and muscle relaxant, were prepd. by the reaction of compds. II (Y = H, acetyl; -(R2 -H) = lower alkylene, alkenylene) with strong base at 150↿-250≦̸C or with lithium alkyl in ether. Thus, a mixt. of 12-bromo-13-methyl-5,6,7,12-tetrahydrodibenzo[a,d cyclooctene-6,12-imine, CH3,ONa, and MeOH was refluxed to give 12-methoxy-13-methyl-5,6,7,12-tetrahydrodibenzo[a,d cyclooctene-6,12-imine.
