A wrap-round shield for protecting thermoplastic insulation on electric wiring from external overheating has a composite structure involving a layer (I) of flexible or semi-rigid heat-resistant material coated on each face with a layer of melt adhesive material (II). Opt. the heat resistant material is lined on at least one face with a layer of material which will conduct and/or reflect heat, e.g. aluminium foil. Esp. for local protection of wiring for e.g. telephones, television or telecommunications where the wire passes through armoured sleeving or equipment junctions which may be assembled or sealed by a hot process such as soldering or welding, to inhibit fusion or thermal contraction of the wire insulation etc. The heat resilient layer (I) may be of glass or mineral wool or fabric. The fusible material may be applied in strip form, may be of differing thickness or materials on opposite faces of the shield; no specific materials quoted.
|
