The O ring (1) has projections (3) which are integrally moulded on its side flanks, are uniformly distributed and are arranged opposite one another. After insertion of the O ring (1) into an annular groove, the surfaces of the projections (3) lie opposite the walls of the annular groove with a small clearance and, by coming into contact with the walls of the annular groove, prevent the O ring (1) from being twisted in the annular groove. The projections (3) are preferably situated only in that half of the O ring (1) which faces the base of the groove and have a semi-cylindrical shape with a cylindrical surface portion facing the base of the groove. <IMAGE>
