The alignment of the axes of a coolant feed duct (3) extending eccentrically, axially parallel and in a straight line from below through an internal combustion engine piston (1), and of the injection bore (8) of a coolant injection nozzle (6) arranged below the piston (1) are to be capable of being controlled on pistons (1) installed in the internal combustion engine. A test device provided for this purpose consists of a test rod (14) which can be switched into an electrical controlling circuit (15) by means of an optical and/or acoustic control element (16, 17), can be plugged onto the coolant injection nozzle (6), and has at least one electrical contact shoulder (18) along which the coolant feed duct (3) can be guided during a control operation by moving the piston (1) over a full stroke.
