An understructure (2) for a monitor (6) is provided, which consists of two cheek parts (3, 4) between which a console (5) is arranged so as to be adjustable in inclination. The adjustment in inclination and height takes place by means of a clamping device which is formed by screw bolts attached laterally to the console (5), vertical elongate holes (18, 19) in the cheek parts (3, 4), and knobs (31, 33) with an internal thread which can be screwed onto the screw bolts. Furthermore, the cheek parts (3, 4) have webs (13, 15, 16) for reinforcement which can also be used as gripping strips. Furthermore, openings (14) are made in the cheek parts (3, 4) for introducing cables. Due to the support of the console (5) with the aid of laterally mounted cheek parts (3, 4), a bridge-like construction is formed with a tunnel-like opening below the console (5). A keyboard unit (8) can be pushed into this opening when the monitor is not in use. The region in front of the monitor is thus free for other desk work. <IMAGE>
