In the handling of reusable containers, for example bottles or the like, which are reused or refilled after emptying by the consumer, extensive transport measures are required. In this case, considerable noise and transfer problems occur. With the present invention, these disadvantages are to be reduced and the bottles fed to a cleaning machine immediately after the unpacking operation, the intention being to link the different working rhythms of these two machines. For this purpose, the bottles are held separately in all phases of the transfer operation and, in the region of the unpacking machine, passed to a transfer device, substantially excluding a horizontal movement, and after being taken by this device they are accelerated and, in the region of the cleaning machine, passed to its receiving cells synchronously to its working rhythm.
