The knock sensor (8) is vibrationally coupled to the combustion chamber wall (1) of a water-cooled internal combustion engine by way of a rigid carrier (pin 6) screwed into the combustion chamber wall (1), which carrier is led tightly but insulated against vibrations through a hole (4) in the block wall (2), for the purpose of detecting virtually only those vibrations attributable to knocking. <IMAGE>
