When cutting to size heat insulations, which contain between sheet-like textile structures a filling of intrinsically loose material, loose material is freed and the insulating effect is reduced, at least in the area of the cut. To consolidate the intrinsically loose material, it is applied in layers, parts of each layer being bonded to one another and/or to their underlay by means of an adhesion promoter setting to produce a flexible bond under the action of heat. The heat is made to act in each case after laying of a layer and subsequently after laying of the covering second sheet-like textile structure. Vinyl-based contact adhesives are used as adhesion promoter.
