The invention relates to a process and a device for the evacuation and subsequent welding of filled foil bags, in which the bag is pushed with its opening slit over a suction nozzle, whereupon the opening slit is pressed shut and clamped; suction and separation welding take place subsequently. To ensure a reliable suction of the air contained in the bag during the entire suction operation, before the suction commences one bag wall is displaced relative to the other bag wall in the region of the suction nozzle.
