The invention provides a noise simulator for generating operating and/or driving noises for electric toy and model railways, which comprises a noise generating and modulation circuit which is provided for generating a modulated noise signal. This noise generation and modulation circuit is followed by an audio-frequency amplifier, to the output of which a loudspeaker is connected. In addition, the noise simulator has a power supply section for generating a noise generation and modulation circuit operating voltage from the driving voltage from the toy or model railway. According to the invention, this noise simulator is characterised by the fact that, for supplying and/or generating a maximum possible operating DC even at low driving voltages, a voltage-controlled switch is provided, especially for the noise generation and modulation circuit, its audio-frequency amplifier and/or loudspeaker and for a modulation signal generating circuit and possibly for further circuits of the noise simulator, which voltage-controlled switch is connected in parallel with a voltage regulator which is connected between the rectifier of the power supply section and the operating voltage output. This voltage-controlled switch bypasses the voltage regulator at bw driving voltages at which the output voltage of the voltage regulator is below the nominal operating voltage.
