The electrical lock, suitable especially for doors or windows, comprises a manually actuable bolt (1). A blocking member (2) moved by an electrical driving device (5) blocks the bolt (1) in at least one of its closing positions. To read off the locking code of a key (11), there is an electrical reading and control device (7, 9) which controls the driving device (5). The driving device (5) and the reading and control device (7, 9) are connected to a mains-independent voltage store (15) which is charged by a generator (19) operable independently of the mains. If a dynamo-electric generator is used, this is driven by means of the opening and closing movement of the door, of the door handle, of the lock or of the key. Electromagnetic or piezoelectric sound transducers for air or structure-borne sound or photoelectric or thermoelectric transducers can also be employed for generating the charging current of the voltage store (15). <IMAGE>
