If the fibre-optic line is accidentally destroyed in an optical transmission path, the laser light emerging from the break point may be harmful to people. The intermediate regenerators and terminal stations of the described optical transmission path are fitted with detectors, generators and switching means which interact in such a way that the optical transmitter which transmits into the defective field is automatically deactivated. Once the transmitter has been deactivated, the transmission path remains in a condition which allows the defective field to be located from both terminal stations. |
