The used ceiling air, cooling on the window pane and hence sinking here, leaves the room in the region of the windowsill through ventilation openings predominantly by way of interposed horizontal exhaust air headers. Parapet wall prefabricated elements have vertical air supply shafts which are predominantly heated by the ambient conditions without an energy supply. A chimney effect, and hence the automatic supply of preheated fresh air into the room, arises because of the heat. Predominantly for old buildings, the ventilating device consists of an outer housing attached to the window frame, with a mounting provided on it on which additional ventilating elements can be mounted as required by the users of the dwelling, for sound insulation, accommodation of a fan, or the like. Energy centres are accommodated laterally in the masonry. Parapets equipped predominantly with heat collectors are connected to the window as an integral element. The inlet and outlet openings for feed and exhaust air are laterally offset in the facade. Mounting jigs can at the same time be building features and have mountings for the attachment of the sub-structure for facade facings, of scaffoldings and facade accessories such as advertising, lighting, etc. <IMAGE>
