The invention relates to a way of simplifying the cutting processing of various materials. An electrical voltage is supplied between insulated cutting edges which are close to one another in the cutting tool, in order that local heating is produced in the cutting joint in the vicinity of the cutting edge tips. The heating up eases the cutting work. The heating takes place quickly and is limited just to the part of the material which it is intended to be cut.
