The invention relates to a chain or belt drive with an input and output wheel arranged at a distance from one another on axles or the like and with a chain or belt guided around the said wheels, and with a tensioning device for the chain or belt, the position of the chain or belt being adjustable for the purpose of changing the transmission ratio between the input wheel and the output wheel, and that part of at least one wheel which is in operative connection with the chain or belt being divided into sectors which are arranged along the wheel in a manner which allows their position to be altered in a plane perpendicular to the wheel axis using the respective wheel diameter, and the sectors being lockable relative to the corresponding wheel by means of a ball-type lock.
