<p>The vertical axis windmill includes cross shaped supports for the vanes which catch the wind. The four vanes have a cross-section of a circle segment, and are mounted between cross-shaped supports so that they may turn about axes parallel to the rotor main axis. The vanes are also linked together by four rods and springs which control the extent to which they open out in order to catch the wind. The vertically mounted rotor is housed in a tall square framework supported by guys extending from the top of the structure to the ground.</p> |
