The invention is a free-piston compressor with pressure spaces arranged symmetrically on the outside. The compressor is particularly suitable for fully hermetic delivery of the medium. When embodied with a differential piston, the machine can operate as a multi-stage compressor. The drive is provided by the oscillating-armature motor formed by the piston and the housing.
