The relay has a pole plate arrangement (9, 10, 11, 12) which is arranged inside the coil (1, 2) and encloses a permanent magnet (13), and whose pole limbs (9b, 10b, 11b, 12b) are located outside the coil in each case in planes directed at right angles to the coil axis and, in pairs, enclose in each case one armature limb (19, 20) of a U-shaped armature laminate (16), arranged above the coil, forming operating air gaps. The armature laminate (16) is held in an insulating armature plate (17) and is supported in a suspended manner above said plate on armature springs (25) so that a transverse movement of the armature parallel to the coil axis is possible. Contact supports (28) are mounted such that they can be plugged in on both sides of the coil former (1), the contact elements (31, 32, 33) of which contact supports can be operated by means of operating cams (34) on the armature plate. <IMAGE>
