The valve shaft (17) of the ball plug (14) projects sealingly through the sleeve extension (26) of the valve housing (13) of an underfloor-arranged branch valve (12) for water pipe connections or the like and forms a square (24). To couple this square to a pole wrench passed down from above the floor, use is made of a coupling bushing (27) which is passed by way of its lower hollow over the predominantly cylindrical outer face (35) of the sleeve extension (26) with a snug fit, engages round the square (24) by way of an inner square face (34), is axially supported on the valve housing by way of its lower end (36) and is held against this stop by means of a nut (37) which is screwed onto the valve shaft (17) and presses against the inner collar (33) of the coupling bushing (27). To the outer square (29) can be attached the associated wrench face of the pole wrench. The coupling bushing (27) must be held on the valve housing (13) as far as possible free from radial play and secure against tilting, so that all forces of the pole wrench are directly transmitted to the valve housing. Radial play can optionally remain between the square faces (24) and (34). Instead of the outer square (29), an inner wrench face can be provided to permit firm connection of a pole wrench in the case of tapping fittings. <IMAGE>
