According to the invention, for the two-stage flushing in WC flushing cisterns with a float valve, one or more containers (2) with a very low dead weight and an adjustable water-inlet and water-outlet opening (10) is attached to the overflow pipe (1), characteristic of each flushing cistern, or is formed in one piece with the overflow pipe. The container (2) can be lowered in the flushing cistern water and has, as a result of its low dead weight, no effect on the float valve when situated in the water. The water-inlet and water-outlet opening (10) in the container (2) is adjustable in size so that the water flows out of the container (2) at a different speed than the flushing cistern water situated all around, after initiating the flushing by means of the actuating mechanism. Consequently, after normal, short actuation of the actuating mechanisms customary for flushing, the water still situated in the container (2) and acting as a weight will lower the overflow pipe (1) to effect valve closure. The entire quantity of flushing cistern water flows out if the actuating mechanism for flushing is actuated for just a little longer. The overflow pipe (1) is then prevented from descending and effecting valve closure at the time of the intended descent and there is then no longer a sufficient quantity of water acting as a weight in the container. <IMAGE>
