There is disclosed a method for the reception and restitution of original acoustic events by means of a virtual sound source, wherein the sound diffused by at least two transmitters (28, 34) comprises a main sound and a secondary sound which are both a restitution of the original acoustic event. The secondary sound is attenuated with respect to the main sound by an amount comprised between a maximum of 15 to a minimum of 6 dB and retarded by at least 0.3 to a maximum of 1.2 ms. There is also described a method for the restitution of original acoustic events by means of a virtual sound source wherein the main sound is laterally diffused towards the head of a listener from two separate sound transmitters which are arranged vis-à-vis, and a secondary sound field is directed perpendicularly to the main sound to the front and/or back of the head, thereby forcing the head of the listener to effect oscillation motions.
