In a device for feeding individual sheets from a hopper (14) to the platen (10) of an office machine, in which the drive energy of the device is provided by the platen, the energy requirement fluctuates during the separation and feeding operation. In order to reduce the peak values of this energy requirement, according to the invention an energy store is provided which can be recharged by means of the drive energy provided by the platen (10) and discharges the stored energy to the device during the phases of the separation and feeding operation with the maximum energy requirement. A cam disc (28) is preferably provided, on whose circumference a follower lever (34) rests under the stress of a tension spring (38). The tension spring (38) is stressed by a rising cam part (30) while the stored energy is discharged again as drive energy to the cam disc (28) via a steeply dropping cam part (32). <IMAGE>
