Hitherto conventional parking meters working mechanically burden the town and local administrations with high installation and maintenance costs and cannot prevent parking for long periods in short-term parking zones. By means of the parking-time detection device with a parking permission display for vehicles, which operates without the use of coins or tokens, is issued according to the particular vehicle and is equipped with a long-period parking interlock circuit preventing parking for long periods, only the parking time actually used is debited and subtracted from a predetermined total parking time allowed by the fee to be paid when the device is issued.
