The invention relates to an ultrasonic tomograph (6, 55) for medical examinations, comprising a liquid tank for immersion of the test object and at least one ultrasonic emitting and receiving system (10, 11) mounted on a support (12, 68) rotatable in the liquid tank (5, 45, 60) about an essentially vertical axis (13, 67). In such ultrasonic tomographs it is relatively complicated to relate the adjusted tomographic plane to the test object (9, 56). For this purpose the invention proposes that the liquid tank be provided with a device (26, 28, 44, 46, 48, 49, 57, 58, 61, 62, 64) for observation of the test object and that at least one light sight (20 to 23, 42) be built into the liquid tank for generation of a light spot identifying the plane of the slice image on the test object. <IMAGE>
