In an end protection for pipes (2) which consists of an annular steel plate (1) having a separation gap (4), the steel plate (1) is profiled in a prism shape in cross-section and tensioned around the outside circumference of the pipes (2) in order, in a simple and safe manner, to obtain, in particular, an effective protection of the smooth surface of the insertion end of the pipe in the insertion region, which surface is necessary for a tight plug-in sleeve connection, e.g. for cast pipes. <IMAGE>
