The invention relates to a labelling station for objects such as bottles with a label printing mechanism. The printing mechanism comprises one or more marking elements which roll against an inking roller and which apply the ink they have received to the front of the label, held by the removal elements, in a roll-off process. The inking roller picks up the printing ink, which has a high solvent content and which therefore dries in fractions of a second, directly from a tank. A doctor in the form of a block of foamed material with closed pores is mounted on the outside of the roller to meter out the amount of ink to be applied. The outside of the roller is smooth and of metallic hardness. It preferably consists of steel. A printing mechanism of this kind has the advantage that printing ink which dries quickly and which is therefore immediately smudge-proof can be used without there being a risk of the printing ink received by the outside of the roller drying on the outside of the roller. Immersion of the inking roller in the printing ink causes drying ink to become soluble again. In addition, the reliability of the doctor is not reduced during operation. <IMAGE>
