The present improvement relates to [4-oxo-4H-1-benzopyran-8-yl]alkanoic acids represented by the formula: <IMAGE> in which AR is hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl radical, or a thienyl, furyl, naphthyl, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl radical; B is a linear or branched lower alkyl radical which is saturated or contains an ethylenic unsaturation; R1 is hydrogen or a phenyl radical; X is hydrogen, a lower alkyl radical or an alkoxy radical and n = 1, as well as their salts, esters, aminoesters and amides. The compounds and their derivatives can be used as medicinal, especially antitumour, products.
