A process for shaping a frame part for use in a motor vehicle, for the purpose of accepting bending stresses acting on it, comprises the rolling of a metal sheet in order to form a recess on one surface of the metal sheet, giving a tapered portion which extends in the longitudinal direction of the metal sheet, the thickness of the metal sheet in the vicinity of the longitudinal centre line being less than in the vicinity of each side. The rolled metal sheet is then bent in the longitudinal direction in order to obtain a cross-section which has a web and legs which are bent around on opposite sides of the web.
