Gear-cutting machine (1), consisting of a base (2), and a first and a second column (4, 10), which are mounted on the base and of which at least one is movable in the longitudinal direction, which serve in each case to carry a tool (9) and a rotary spindle (12) as a rest for a part (13) on which teeth are to be cut, in which arrangement a position transmitter (18) connected to the movable column, a measuring device (16) for the base temperature, a processing unit (31) which receives the output signals from the said position transmitter and the said device, and drive elements (35) are provided, which drive elements (35) are controlled by the processing unit and act on the movable column in order to continuously compensate for the changes in distance between the said columns which result from fluctuations in the base temperature. <IMAGE>
