An air/water heat pump is to be of compact structure and to be suitable for interior and exterior placement. For this purpose, a lower mounting space (6) and an upper mounting space (10) are formed in the housing of the heat pump. The compressor (4), the condenser (5) and a switchbox (7) are arranged in the lower mounting space (6). The evaporator, the fan (14) and an air duct are provided in the upper mounting space (10). The two mounting spaces (6,10) are separated by a defrosting trough (12). A blow-off opening (15) and a suction opening (16) are formed at the top of the upper mounting space (10). A head part (20) adapted to the interior placement or exterior placement is set on the upper mounting space (10). <IMAGE>
