Cutting and measuring system for sheets of wood

The system has a table (7) with an adjustable stop (1) for a sheet of e.g. wood (2) and a marker (3) to mark a line on the wood along which sawing will occur. The marker (3) slides across the direction of cut and its displacement (A) is controlled. The marker may be a laser that projects a narrow line (4) onto the wood. Any knot (12) crack or other unacceptable fault in the wood causes the marker to move on until its line lies not on the fault but adjacent to it. The marker's displacement is shown on a display. The step is moved until the distance (x) between its face (18) and the longitudinal cutting slot (8) in the table are coincident.
