In a projection system, consisting of several video projectors (1 to 3), having a common projection area (4), automatic convergence calibration is to be carried out. For this purpose, sensor fields (6 to 8) are arranged on the projection surface which must be illuminated by the individual video projectors. From the quantity of light picked up by the sensors at the time of the activation of the associated picture elements by a video projector (e.g. 1) or the time offset between nominal and actual illumination, a conclusion is drawn regarding the misalignment of the projection in accordance with magnitude and direction. The projection misaligned in each case is corrected via an associated control device (RGS1). <IMAGE>
