The metals are especially special steels. While the yield in low pressure casting is normally satisfactorily large only when very large castings, for example weighing 10 tons, are cast, the invention aims at raising the yield markedly, especially for small articles. This essentially happens according to the proposal of the invention in that a metal sleeve is used as a lost riser, without the need to provide the mould inlet with a closure or the outlet with risers. At the same time the expensive graphite moulds can be avoided. Likewise, the otherwise necessary ceramic casting pipes are omitted. The quality of the castings is characterized, with high yield, by a smooth surface and by freedom from voids.
