The invention relates to a browning sensor for determining the degree of browning of toast or grilled items in toasters or grills, which independently of the nature of the browned item permits the generation of a reproducible degree of browning. According to the invention, the browning sensor consists of a sensor head and measuring elements that are optically connected to the browned item.
