The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating sarcopenia and a method for treating sarcopenia by using the pharmaceutical composition, wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises: glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1); GLP-1-derived peptide; GLP-1 secretion stimulator; GLP-1 peptidase inhibitor; GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist; and exendin-4 or exendin-4-derived peptide. When administered to a subject suffering from sarcopenia or muscle dystrophy, the pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating sarcopenia provided by the present invention can restore back to normal levels, body weight, skeletal muscle mass, grip strength, and expression level of genes related to muscle formation, reduced by sarcopenia or muscle dystrophy. Therefore, the pharmaceutical composition of the present invention can be widely used in the development of a drug effective for treating sarcopenia or muscle dystrophy. |
