An automatic money-handling apparatus has a housing with a coin receptacle, a coin ramp leading to a coin sorter, a coin storage device for storing coins of the same face value, a coin storage device for storing coins without regard to their face value, a coin dispensing device for dispensing more than one coin at a predetermined time, a coin lifting device for returning coins to a different height from that at which the coins are dispensed, and computing devices which are designed to count received and dispensed coins. The money-handling apparatus possesses, furthermore, a coin detector for identifying coins in terms of their face value and for detecting coins which are unsuitable, as well as a coin deflecting device for transferring false coins to the coin store without regard to their face value, the computing device providing the logical control for all the electromechanical functions.
