Vulcanization of rubber with sulphur using a polyether and at least one conventional accelerator in a concentration below the usual range, i.e. below a value of 1,3% by weight, calculated on the rubber. Particularly suitable are block polyethers from ethylene oxide and a 1,2-alkylene oxide having 12 to 20 carbon atoms. Further, it is of advantage to have the polyether and the usual accelerator together with other vulcanizing agents added to the rubber in accordance with the master batch procedure. These steps lead to a considerable reduction in the endangerment of health that may be due to the usual accelerators, but have no detrimental effect on vulcanization.
|
