A deacidification composition comprising: at least one single metal alkoxide; and at least one double metal alkoxide having two metal alkoxides associated with each other, the double metal alkoxide comprising one metal alkoxide having formula MI(OR)x and a second metal alkoxide having the formula MII(OR)y where R is the same or different C1-C4 alkyl, the single metal alkoxide and double metal alkoxide being dispersed in a low moisture solvent having a moisture content below 100 ppm, the low moisture solvent including at least one of fluorocarbon solvent, aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and aliphatic hydrocarbon, the single metal alkoxide comprising from about 0.03 to about 3.0 weight percent, based upon the weight of the single metal, double metal alkoxides and solvent, and the double alkoxide comprising from about 0.020 to about 6.0 weight percent, based upon the weight of the single metal, double metal alkoxides and solvent, the single metal and double metal alkoxides in a ratio and the single metal and double metal alkoxide and low moisture solvent in amounts which are effective to not create a precipitate which is visible to the naked eye on the surface of a cellulosic material being treated.
