The invention relates to a control device for a heated furnace for melting metal, current converters being provided for supplying the electrode which is connected to a hydraulic adjusting device. The control device itself consists of a power regulator, a current regulator and a power-factor regulator, the hydraulic adjusting device and the current converter being influenced. It is also possible to change over between the two operating modes "automatic with current preset" and "automatic with power-factor control", the latter being primarily used to protect the three-phase grid. The changeover between the operating modes can also be carried out during operation. The advantage of the control device is that the power is preset and can be regulated.
