A method for determining the period of time of a rapid heating of a room, in which, beginning at any desired starting point, the difference between the room temperature and the external temperature is continuously determined at time intervals, integrated and stored, and during the same period of time the total running time of the burner of the heat source employed to heat the room is determined, in a preceding lowering phase the time integral of the difference between the room tempereature and the external temperature being formed and for the same time the running time of the burner being determined and the time interval for the duration of the rapid heating being determined from these values in accordance with the following relation: Tvor=RACA.In((PORA+TA1-TR1)/PORA+TA1 -TR2> where RA signifies a constant of the dimension DEG C/kW, CA signifies the thermal capacity of the building, PO the burner power, TA1 the external temperature and TR1 the room temperature in each instance at the last following point in time of lowering and TR2 signifies the room temperature after the rapid heating.
