In an electrical balance with a load receiver (30, 32) and with a permanent-magnet system (70, 72, 74) and a live coil (54) for load compensation, arranged in the magnetic field of the latter, the permanent-magnet system comprising an essentially rectangular box (70, 72) for receiving at least one permanent magnet (74) and the coil (54), it is proposed to form the box from two U-shaped ferromagnetic sheet-metal parts (70, 72) which engage one into the other in an offset manner. This design combines great ease of assembly with the advantage of regularly being able to do without an additional magnetic shielding plate and therefore of saving constructional height, since the largely closed box (70, 72) now has only a very small magnetic stray field. The invention is used especially in precision balances with medium indicating resolution. <IMAGE>
