The invention relates to a method for the cutting-to-size of prefabricated profiles for casing and sash frames of windows as well as for carrying out the further machining operations by means of drilling and milling units. A corresponding apparatus consists of a feed device for the profiles, a sawing device and also individual drilling and milling units. To optimise the interplay of the individual operations and accelerate the production sequence, several profiles, preferably four to eight profiles, are guided simultaneously in parallel machining paths lying close beside one another, all profiles guided next to one another being initially cut in one operation by a notching saw (8). The initially cut profiles are fed forwards according to their predetermined length, and the positioned profiles are in turn cut off in one operation by the notching saw (8), all further machining operations being carried out at the same time by means of the drilling and milling units (9-16, 24). <IMAGE>
