The composite material comprises a copolymer of a phenolic monomer and of an aldehyde monomer. It is characterised in that the copolymer is a resin which has chelating and/or ion exchanger properties and in that the resin coats a plant- or protein-based cellulose support. Application to the recovery of metals in effluents and to the production of vitamin B12.
