The paper dividing device for prefolded continuous paper which is drawn from a supply pile via a paper conveying device and fed to a printing apparatus, consists of a first deflection element which deflects the web of paper in a first deflection direction between the paper conveying device and the supply pile and whose deflection radius is dimensioned such that layers of paper which are sticking together in an undesirable manner are fanned out. A second deflection element which deflects the web of paper counter to the first deflection direction is arranged downstream of the first deflection element, constructed as a paper cylinder, in the paper conveying direction. In order to facilitate the fanning-out and to prevent the released loop from dropping back, there is a paper guiding plate in the vicinity of the first deflection element.
