The extruded plastics or metal hollow door or window frame section has an inclined portion (1a) to provide drainage (1) when installed as a sill. It has two flanges (6,7) extending into the door or window recess, three flanges (3-5) on the opposite side, and a groove (8) in the indoor side. Between the flanges (6,7) two integral ribs provide a groove (10) to receive a seal when used as a frame for an outwardly or inwardly opening door or window. By removing certain flanges, either on installation or immediately after extrusion, the member can be used for an inwardly or outwardly opening door or window, for fixed glazing in an inner or outer rebate, shallowly or more deeply recessed in the outer wall surface, or back-to-back (removing 4,5) to form an intermediate rail. These applications are described and illustrated.
