In order to achieve a modular construction with universal applicability of the individual components, the apparatus consists of a three-piece housing (1) in which in each case a plurality of electrical plug-in assemblies (4) of common dimensions in height and breadth but with a variable thickness are assembled in a frame-shaped insert (2, 3) to form an autonomous functional unit. The inserts form modular units, are closed on one side with a rear-wiring board (22) which contains all the plug-in assemblies, mating plugs (25) and interface plugs and test plugs (26, 27), and is supported in the housing such that shocks and vibrations are damped. The invention is generally suitable for telecommunications apparatuses having plug-in assemblies. <IMAGE>
