Loading bridges, the bridge plate of which is articulated at one end to a stationary ramp and the other upwardly and downwardly pivotable end of which supports a projection which can be telescoped or folded out and can be placed on a platform to be loaded or unloaded, cannot be used if the platform to be loaded or unloaded is or is to be loaded up to the outside edge on the side on which the projection of the bridge plate is placed. In order to eliminate this disadvantage, it is proposed that in such cases, telescoping or folding out of the projection be interrupted before the fully telescoped or fully folded out position is reached, and that an additional switch for reversing the movement of the bridge plate back into the rest position be provided, so that even when the projection does not come into contact with the switch provided for this purpose, the bridge plate can be moved back into the rest position.
