The invention relates to a method for transmitting messages from a public telephone station by means of a text card. It is intended to be possible, by simply inserting the text card, to set up a connection to a predetermined subscriber station and to send a specific message thereto which also contains the location of the public telephone box. To achieve this object, a text card reading device is provided in the public telephone station which performs the function of the hook switch when the text card is inserted, reads out the stored address to set up the connection, thereafter transmits a text and adds the location of the public telephone station. The invention relates to all public telephone stations at the transmitting end and to telephone stations with an at least one-line (digital) display at the receiving end.
